What?!?!?! Congress needs help.

I don't know how many of you have heard of this, but it is making me so mad! Congress has passed a law to go into effect on Feb. 10 that would stop all selling of second hand children's items. No one in Congress had the guts to see and say this law will hurt so many American families, not help children. Here is an article from the LA Times you can read about it:

From what I have heard, Congress did make the exception for thrift and consignment stores, but craigslist and ebay along with garage sales would be off limits for used children's gear (including clothing) that is meant for children under age 12. If you think this is another stupid move by Congress, go to the website below and sign the petition and email or mail your congressional representatives that you DO NOT support this.

Wow, that is really dumb. I can't tell you how many clothes and other things we have gotten that are used in preparation for our baby. Thanks for passing the word along.

The Arizona Republic had a slightly different take on this. Their article states that thrift stores and consignment stores AREN'T required to test for lead and phthalates. They are, however, still criminally and civil liable if the items they sell contain excessive amounts of the two toxins (which in practice means thrift and consignment stores would have to test).
